LHSD News:
The Nutcracker At The Dalhousie Arts Centre
From Dec. 5-14th, you will find Leica at the Dalhousie Arts Centre directing The Nutcracker. This year, ten LHSD students will be performing in the production. Naomi Chaulk, Charis Greeley, Alice Gunn, Olivia Holmes, and Valeriia Shevchenko will be appearing in all performances. Eva Holmes and Ivanka Holmes will appear as Cast A children and little mice. Elyse Crober, Fiona Foot and Lauren Foot will appear as Cast B children and little mice. Former LHSD instructor and alumna Rebecca Wolfe will be reprising the roles of Lotte Drosselmeyer and Mother Ginger for the third year.
As the choreographer and director of the production, I am looking forward to working with our two new principal guest artists. Julia Barkhouse is a Dartmouth native who graduated from Canada’s National Ballet School and most recently from the Professional Training Program at Arts Umbrella in Vancouver. Our male guest artist, Kealan McLaughlin, was formerly a principal dancer with Canada’s Ballet Jörgen. This Fall, he will perform in Guillaume Côté’s and Robert Lepage’s balletic reimagining of Hamlet for its European tour.

Parent Participation & Holiday Celebration Days
Participation Days are always festive and will take place on December 20 & 21 this year! We thought it would be the perfect way to close out our final weekend of the Fall term. Parents or an older sibling are invited to take class with the younger students. This is a great way to celebrate your child’s progress, and for parents to appreciate the complexity and rigour of dance training. We encourage everyone to come dressed in their holiday accessories and their most outrageous, ugly holiday sweater!
Winter Term Invoicing & Fees
You will be sent a QuickBooks invoice for your Winter term fees in the next couple of weeks. Fees are due on or before your first class of the new term. Late fees will be added after that date.
Ballet Exam Planning
We have now started preparing examination choreography in all of our ballet classes. We will confirm exam participation with individual students and start collecting exam fees in the New Year. Please mark your calendars – exams will take place on March 13 & 14.

- 6: Michelle subbing for Leica in Ballet 3 / Ballet Intermediate & Pointe students to take a replacement class
- 10: No scheduled Wednesday classes with Leica due to Nutcracker
- 11: No scheduled Thursday classes with Leica due to Nutcracker
- 13: Michelle subbing for Leica in Ballet 3 / Ballet Intermediate & Pointe students to take a replacement class
- 20 & 21: Parent Participation & Holiday Celebration Days
- 22: Final night of classes before the holidays.
